My new favorite commercial is this “priceless” commercial for MasterCard. The narration goes through all the expensive toys and books that came IN the box, but points out that what the child is most fascinated with is the BOX itself. It reminded me that one of the best learning materials you can provide the children in your program is an empty box. They are simple, cheap, easily replaceable and provide hours of exploration and learning.
As a toddler moves through her environment, manipulating materials and maneuvering her body up and down, in, and around objects, she is learning about how her body works, how it feels, what it can do, and the impact she can make on her environment.
Do you have any pictures or ideas for using empty boxes in your program?
